Contractors' Plant & Machinery — CPM

Contractors' Plant & Machinery (CPM) Insurance

Excavators, bulldozers, cranes, mobile generators and concrete pumps can meet physical damage exposures in construction and infrastructure work. This page explains how CPM differs from CAR and Machinery Breakdown insurance, the possible underwriting topics and the quotation information set; cover depends on the policy wording.

What Is Contractors' Plant & Machinery (CPM) Insurance?

CPM insurance addresses physical damage exposures affecting plant and machinery used by contractors and equipment owners in construction, infrastructure and related operations. Insured property, activities, territorial limits, exclusions and conditions are determined by the agreed policy wording.

The scope of cover depends on the equipment schedule, how the equipment is used and the policy wording. This page does not promise that cover will be given or that any particular scope exists.

Source and scope note: This page explains how CPM relates to neighbouring policies by reference to Construction Insurance General Conditions (All Risks) A.3(a), Erection Insurance General Conditions art. 2(a) and the Machinery Breakdown Insurance General Conditions, all listed among the general conditions on the SEDDK website. This page cites no General Conditions for CPM; it does not assert that separate, current General Conditions exist for CPM in Türkiye, and it does not infer from the absence of General Conditions that the product is unavailable in the market. Cover depends on the policy wording and special conditions. A separate Neolife page does not imply an independent policy or a guarantee of capacity or a quotation.

Equipment That May Be Insured

The following equipment, and similar plant, may be assessed for insurance:

  • Excavators, bulldozers, graders and loaders
  • Cranes
  • Mobile generators and compressors
  • Concrete pumps

Inclusion of individual items is subject to underwriting acceptance and the policy schedule.

CPM and the Plant Cover under CAR

Construction Insurance General Conditions A.3(a) allow contractors' plant and equipment to be included by additional agreement. CPM may instead be structured as a separate insurance arrangement addressing the equipment's particular exposures. Cover at different sites, in transit or during operation is determined solely by the applicable policy terms.

CPM and Machinery Breakdown Insurance

Machinery Breakdown insurance addresses specified sudden and unforeseen damage to machinery and plant under its General Conditions. CPM requires a separate underwriting assessment of contractors' equipment, including operating locations, mobility, activities and exposure patterns. The two arrangements must not be treated as automatically interchangeable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Contractors' Plant & Machinery (CPM) insurance?

CPM insurance addresses physical damage exposures affecting plant and machinery used by contractors and equipment owners in construction, infrastructure and related operations. Insured property, activities, territorial limits, exclusions and conditions are determined by the agreed policy wording. This page is not a policy or a guarantee of capacity.

How does it differ from the plant cover available under CAR?

Construction Insurance General Conditions A.3(a) allow contractors' plant and equipment to be included by additional agreement. CPM may instead be structured as a separate insurance arrangement addressing the equipment's particular exposures. Cover at different sites, in transit or during operation is determined solely by the applicable policy terms.

How does it differ from Machinery Breakdown insurance?

Machinery Breakdown insurance addresses specified sudden and unforeseen damage to machinery and plant under its General Conditions. CPM requires a separate underwriting assessment of contractors' equipment, including operating locations, mobility, activities and exposure patterns. The two arrangements must not be treated as automatically interchangeable.

Are different sites and transport covered automatically?

No. Use at different sites, road use and transport between sites are possible underwriting topics; none is promised as automatic cover. Territorial limits, the manner of transport and cover during operation are determined solely by the terms of the relevant policy.

Can hired-in or leased equipment be insured?

Whether the equipment is owned or hired is information to be disclosed in the underwriting assessment. Whether hired-in equipment can be insured, the insurable interest and the allocation of responsibility depend on the insurer's acceptance and the policy wording; hired-in machinery calls for separate assessment.

Are theft and overturning included in every policy?

No. Theft, overturning, collision, flood and fire are possible underwriting topics; none is automatic cover in every policy. Which events are covered and which are excluded must be read from the policy wording.

How are premium and deductibles assessed?

Premium and deductibles are not given as a single rate or amount; they are assessed from the type, make and model, age and value of the equipment, how it is used, its locations, the operator arrangements, the maintenance and claims history, and the covers and limits requested. Deductibles and limits are stated in the policy.

Neolife's Role

Neolife Group can review the relevant information and policy wording, research suitable local insurance solutions, run a placement exercise and compare the quotations received. This does not mean any insurer's capacity, acceptance of cover, price or payment is promised; acceptance and terms remain with the insurer.
